Green Armband Program for New and Younger Officials

Apr. 20, 2024

After a pilot season in 2023, Metro Minor Lacrosse (MMLL) working with Lacrosse Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Lacrosse Officials Association (NSLOA) will be continuing with a program where  where all officials under the age of 18 or in their first year of officiating will wear a green arm band.

This program is being modeled after a program in use with the Cole Harbour Minor Hockey Program and first introduced in 2020. The goal of the program is to give a clear visual reminder to all players, bench personnel and fans that a new official is part of the game.

2023 was the pilot season for the program and officials were using yellow arm bands and and the decision was made for this season to move to green to be consistent with other sports.  The gola of this program is to help retain new officials through a reduction in harassment and verbal abuse. By clearly identifying new and young officials to coaches, parents, players, and fans the aim is for everyone to be aware and support new officials as they grow in their game.

MMLL and NSLOA would like to thank Lacrosse NS for supporting the cost of the program for this season. If you have any questions, please reach out to Brian Mackintosh (Deputy Commissioner and Official-in-Chief for the MMLL) at deputy@metrominorlacrosse.ca
