Lacrosse Canada Update - Coincidental Minor Penalties

As of May 7, 2026 - coincidental minor penalty administration has been updated

Sunday, May 10, 2026

As of May 7, 2026 Lacrosse Canada has provided clarificaiton around how to administer coincidental minor penalties. World Lacrosse Rule 7.2.6 states that during coincidental minor penalties, teams will play 4-on-4

Effective immediately, LNS and NSLOA  are to follow World Lacrosse Rule 7.2.6 when coincidental minors are assessed to both teams. Teams will play 4-on-4, provided there are no other penalties currently being served or scheduled to be served during this situation (refer to Example 1).

Lacrosse Canada Rule 9.1 — Administration of Coincidental Penalties — states the following: i) Cancel as many penalties as possible. This will come into play if there is more than one (1) minor penalty per team or if one team is already serving a penalty (refer to Example 2).

Example 1:
Team A — 2:00 minor at 10:00
Team B — 2:00 minor at 10:00
Result: Teams will play 4-on-4, and both players will be released at the expiration of their penalties at 8:00. Ball will start with the team who had possession at the time of the penalties.

Example 2:
Team A — 2:00 minor at 10:00
Team B — 2:00 minor at 10:00
Team B - 2:00 minor at 10:00
Result: Team A will have a 5-on-4 power play and start with the ball (Team A player and one Team B player must wait for a dead ball to leave the box).
