Seconded by Christine. All in favor of vote quorum. Sectary Wayne proposes a motion to make Julie Finck the MMLL sectary, seconded by Scott, no objections motion passed. Minutes from the Previous Meeting Motion made to pass minutes from last meeting made by Richard, seconded by Scott. Minutes from last meeting passed. Honarium single administrator & duties *As Donna submitted an application for position of administrative assistant, she was not present for discussion. Decisions need to be made on either a single administrator or several people doing several jobs, what the tasks are, and the honarium amount. Agree that one person would be optimal to decrease fragmentation. Donna has offered to be the single administrator and has given an outline of the responsibilities along with a suggested honarium amount. Data entry and stats ($1200), facilities coordination ($1000), gamesheet distribution and collection ($500), scheduling and re-scheduling ($1500), website and administrative paperwork ($500), and option of assignment of officials ($1600). Discussion on whether to advertise, or give to person within organization everyone in attendance is happy to have Donna, and does not feel the need to advertise as it is not a requirement of our M of A. Richard and others are concerned that is too much for a single person with the assignment of officials Scott will not be assigning officials next year, and advices that it is a big job. Suggests the single administrator does not assign officials, that task is left for another individual. Everyone agrees that Donnas financial request is reasonable and that the $5 player levy will cover this cost Last years numbers are: Arena coordinator - $1000 Shelby (stats) - $1200 Webmaster john has suggested $100-$150 be donated in his name to a fund for player needing financial assistance. Officials assigners - $1200 Wayne proposes that Donna is selected to do all jobs aside from assigning officials, which will be decided at a later date depending. Sean motions that we go with one administrative assistant, we elect Donna, and agree to her proposal less the assigning officials on a one-year term. Mike Hayes seconds. Vote all in favor. Donna returns and position is offered as motioned above, and our concerns expressed. In response to concern that assigning officials is too much alongside the other duties, Donna confirms she would not have offered more than she can handle. In response to concern that dealing with officials would be a conflict of interest with her current position of suspension coordinator, Donna feels it is not a conflict of interest as suspension coordinator is for players and coaches only. Facilities course of action Facilities need to be contacted immediately to confirm commitments and rental rates. St. Margarets - They plan to leave ice in all year and likely will not be available. Will not do one pad without the other for financial reasons. Spryfield, Bowls, Dal should have same schedule as last year. Sackville services Sackville, Bedford, Truro & Valley away games during the week. We could commit big numbers there we need rink for May 1 and commitment to new compressor to keep floor dry. Sackville club is working hard to have the arena purchase a compressor to solve the humidity problem and is willing to make a donation. Would the MMLL be willing to make a donation? If they dont make the change do we want to schedule games there? Military rinks going to look into their availability. Last year there was not a lot of flexibility with arenas/scheduling. Mike Hayes suggests having 4 lacrosse arenas, committing large hours to them, having clocks there, less confusion for parents etc. Wayne comments about adjusting program if rink facilities cannot accommodate our scheduling requirements (two games a week per team). Christine suggests we need a contract (committing to X number of hours) in place by Christmas. Donna is going to contact rinks and we will go from there. Affiliation Current rule states Select players are not allowed to play higher age level at Club or Select level Select team must draw players from Club team at the same level. There is a request that this be changed to allow Select players to play up (ex. Peewee Select player can play Bantam select game). Richard Club players were playing Select games, and if we changed rule then those players would not get that opportunity. Not in favor of rule change. Sean likes current rule. Mike (speaking for Blair) dislikes current rule. Mike says he saw Select players playing up last year. Scott supports current rule Christine Club players get to play more games because of the call up games, and is concerned that Select players are at a disadvantage. Rule stays the same, as there is not enough support to change it. Brain adds that affiliation rules should not relax for goalies. If we relax rules for goalies, the problem will continue. More training needs to be done to develop goaltenders, and each team must have a goaltender LNS are doing strategic planning. Steps need to be taken at all levels, and at younger ages. Sidebar #1- Club players playing higher age Club size difference maybe risky? Dartmouth would like Select players to play higher age Club level. There was not a lot of support for this. Further discussion at the next meeting. Sidebar #2 - no provision saying Club player cannot play on a provincial team. Do we need to create a policy that a provincial player must play Select? This is not an MMLL issue, but a LNS decision. Different coaches have different perspectives. Provincial coaches took size over stick skills rare situation. There may be a need to have guidelines for tryouts. We need to make Select league more attractive. No directive for LNS we should want lots of players coming to participate in identification (try-out) camps. Registration (grandfathering, transfers) There has been a request to have a grandfather clause for players to stay with association once family has moved. Members are not in favor of grandfather clause; these players need to go through regular transfer process. There has been a request to relax transfer process (no paper work, 2 associations do not need to agree). After much discussion, no one wants to relax transfer process, the process is working the paperwork must be done, and the two associations agree in order for a transfer to happen. Announcements Christine meetings are now Thursdays 7:30 9:30 Next meetings are Nov. 8, Nov. 22, and Dec. 6 Midget nationals for girls a possibility for 2009. Ontario and Alberta are looking to host them. Still looking for someone to take on coordinator role for girls program. Brian default charge issued letters to associations concerning default charges from last season. As stated in the letter, if you wish to challenge those charges, you need to send a letter. At the meeting tonight it was announced that the deadline for the challenge is Thursday Nov. 8 (date of next MMLL meeting). Letters will be discussed by the exec. following the meeting. If paperwork is not in at that time, please pay your bill! Next meeting, Thursday, November 8 Adjourned.
